Holy Jeez! It’s Been so Long

Well, let’s see. Life is much better right now than it was when I last wrote. We got the apartment, the girls adore the school their in, I’m dealing with my mental disorders. I’m back on my full dose of Effexor, I ended up in the inpatient due to trying to quit it. They bumped it back up and the scary self harm type thoughts stopped.

That’s not to say that every thing is perfect. I just found out I have arthritis, and I’m in the process of getting diagnosed with fibromyalgia possibly. Which yes both of those things suck majorly but if i  can get them under control well then that’s a good thing isn’t it?

The family is doing well and I love them to pieces. I’m still big into looming. I’m learning to knit and crochet. Keep your eyes peeled for yarn posts. Loom reviews (there are some good ones out there). I’ll probably start featuring etsy shops again. I will also of course keep you up to date on me and my family. I’ll go more into depth as to what’s going on with my mental and physical health.

I bcc almost forgot to introduce you to my sweet baby Athena. Here she is.

Looooooming Looming Looming Away!

I seriously love looming. Not only do I love looming, I love learning about looming, reading about it, seeing other people’s projects….I love it all.

I love the feeling of the yarn sliding through my fingers, I love seeing my project growing out the bottom of my loom, I love finishing a project and putting a brand spanking new, unique and comfortable hat on my head. I love just about everything about it.

No I do love everything about it. I even made myself some custom loom hooks! I’ve just been having a blast.

I’m running out of yarn! This hobby is turning out to be so soothing to me even when I’m totally tense, it’s the complete repetition of it I think. It’s a soothing repetitive motion, once you really get going you can almost pay half attention to it. I can do it and pay a decent amount of attention to whatever is on Netflix.

I’ve currently got 4 hats going at the same time. It’s kind of nice to switch colors, for some reason it keeps me from getting bored even if it’s the same exact stitch on each one. Right now I’m working on a light pinkish color, a plummy color, a red with sequins and a really pretty fluffy purple and light green and white colored hat. I’m SO excited to get them done, I would say I’m a quarter done on all four. So hopefully tonight I’ll get at least another quarter done on each one and then I get to try a new pattern. I’ll post it when I get started. I KNOW you’re excited to see what it is!

The Most Awesome Yarn Site In the Whole Wide Web: Yarnia

Image

So I’ve become a bit obsessive about looming lately. But hey that’s part of who I am and it’s better than obsession over the bullying I’m dealing with or the problems we’re going through! It’s much better than pulling out my hair.

Looming is really helping me right now. Creating something with all my nervous energy is turning out to be so good for me. So of course now that I’m interesting in looming I’m interesting in all the bazillion yarns out there. Sooo searching for something different I found Yarnia. This shop is in Portland Oregon which is kinda in my neck of the woods which made me take a second look. When I realized what this shop does I was intrigued.

Yarnia, creates a custom yarn that YOU build. You go to their yarn creator and choose from all the strands that they have. There is wool, chenille, cotton, lurex… there are seriously a ton of choices. You drag your choices down to the slots that they provide and the meter tells you what weight of yarn you are building. It also lets you know as you go how much it’s going to cost.

Now this is not CHEAP yarn. But I didn’t expect it to be. It’s made from quality products and it’s exactly what YOU want it to be. You get to choose how much you want, what colors, materials… you choose everything about your specialty yarn.

Check out their site. Try the yarn builder. Maybe place an order. Not only are you getting a one of a kind product but you’re supporting a small business which I feel is very, very important as you can tell from my Etsy features.

If you’re in Oregon, stop by and check them out. Tell them that you heard about them on my blog!

Lovely Looming Ladies Made My V-day Great!

ImageSo yesterday after shaving my head I felt ugly and was very aware of my desperate need of hats. So I knit one, It was fun but you can only knit so much when you have three kidlets, a husband and stuff to do.

I’m a member of a Facebook group called GoodKnitKisses it’s a great little community and I’ve had fun talking with people who understand my obsession with looms, yarn, knitting and the search for more projects.

I posted my blog post there because well, I like to share my blog and I had mentioned my trich before… I was a little apprehensive about posting it but the response I got was so happy making.

Three of the lovely ladies offered to send me hats! Seriously these are people that don’t know me and they, out of the goodness of their hearts offered to send me some of their lovely handmade hats.

There were also some wonderful suggestions on ways to embrace my baldness and some sweet encouragements.

This came in the middle of more than a month of pure horribleness. It’s like a ray of sunshine that has totally brightened my outlook on the human race. There are good, sweet, giving people out there. Yes there are bullies and people who mess with you but there are also people who just want to do good things.

So to Christie, Danya, Julie and the rest… thank you so much for doing such a sweet thing for a complete stranger. I don’t have the words to explain to you exactly how much it really means to me right now.

Busy Hands = Happy Head!

Here is a hat that I loomed today! I did it on the blue Knifty Knitter so it’s a tiny little preemie size hat. I’ll be calling the Children’s hospital in my area to find out about donating hats for preemies because let me tell you I’ve already done more than a dozen and that’s on top of the headbands that I’ve been working on for myself. That hat is probably one of my favorites so far… here are a couple more.

This one is SO soft. I love this yarn so much. I actually need to figure out what it’s called so that I can let you know what I used. Please bear with me, I’m new to the whole blogging of my crafts thing! This hat reminds me of the beach in Washington state, the colors really bring the beach and waves and sky to mind. I believe the yarn is called Angel Hair but I don’t know what brand it is.

Those are the two that I’m going to post for today! Okay okay you talked me into it I’m going to post pics of some more!

So soft and sweet!

Okay terrible blurry pic but it’s such a cool yarn I wanted to get a close up of it. It’s actually a specialty yarn that normally sells for like fifteen dollars but I got it for four at a store called Tuesday Morning.

That’s really it for today! Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have some adorable headbands finished to show off!

Featured Etsy Shop: Frame Knitting – Knitting Without Needles

Image

So to continue on my looming path I found a wonderful Etsy shop to share with you today. It’s called Frame Knitting. This shop sells a terrific line of knitting boards also called knitting rakes by some. They are very similar to the round and straight looms that Provocraft and Boye sell but I would say they are a step or two upwards in the loom knitting hierarchy.

I cannot tell you how well these looms work because I haven’t personally used one but this shop lists very detailed pictures such as this

of their looms. I have seen similar looms in crafting stores so I can say with a fair amount of certainty that this is likely a good product. The looms appear to be well made and come in three sizes. There is the Noble Knitter 25 which has 25 pegs per side, the Noble Knitter 50 which has 50 pegs per side and the Noble Knitter 100 which obviously has 100 pegs per side.

The pricing is very reasonable and pretty comparable with other knitting boards out there. Only here you get the added benefit of supporting an Etsy seller. Each knitting board comes with

  • Knitting Board
  • Instruction Pamphlet
  • Knitting tool

This Etsy seller also sells two different books. One is

Knitting for the Knitting Board, Knitting Loom, Knitting Rake Book

which contains a whole lot of instructions and detailed photographs. The other is a book of projects that you can do on your loom or rake or board whether or not you buy one of their Noble Knitters.

I highly recommend you check out this shop. If (when) I get one of these looms I will surely post a  review for all of my loyal readers and then you’ll have even more of a reason to check them out!
