During the winter months many of us lack sunlight. Either because it’s too bleeding cold to go outside, we wake up and go to work then come home from work in the dark or… well because it’s just not sunny.
So when we aren’t getting sunlight we are all at risk of becoming deficient in a very important vitamin… do you know what it is? (Can’t you just see Dora staring at you waiting for an answer?)
That’s right! It’s Vitamin D. Vitamin D is thought to affect a great many things. The deficiency of vitamin D is thought to cause cancer, severe asthma in children, cognitive impairment in the elderly and increased risk of congestive heart failure. The consumption of vitamin D is thought to reduce the risk of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, hypertension, glucose intolerance and multiple sclerosis.
So hey Vitamin D is pretty important! I found a fun website that looks at your lifestyle, body type, skin type and habits and tells you whether you’re likely to be vitamin D deficient or not! It was pretty cool and it told me that HEY! I’m probably deficient.

Did you know that a deficiency of vitamin D has also been linked to depression? So kinda makes sense that a lot more people feel really down in the dumps during the winter. That gloomy weather might just mean a vitamin D deficiency.
